Wie Opera heute in einer Presseaussendung veröffentlichte ist Google ab sofort die neue Standardsuche im populären Opera Mini Browser. Damit hat Google Yahoo als Standardsuchoption im populärsten mobilen Browser ersetzt.

Opera today made Googleâ„¢ the default search engine in Opera’s mobile Web browsers. Now anyone using Opera Mobile or Opera Mini can access Google’s powerful mobile search directly from the browser start page, meaning they’ll be able to quickly and easily get the information they need, whenever and wherever they need it.

Das Business Social Network LinkedIn hat heute den Start seiner für mobile Endgeräte optimierte Oberfläche bekannt gegeben. Unter der URL m.linkedin.com ist die mobile Version von LinkedIn verfügbar. Eine sehr interessante Momentaufnahme zu Ajax auf mobilen Endgeräten hat M. Pervilä in seiner Thesis erfasst. Er hat die Performance von 8 bestehenden Ajax Libarays untersucht und sehr interessante Ergebnisse ermittelt.

The Ajax approach has outgrown its origin as shorthand for “Asynchronous JavaScript + XML”. Three years after its naming, Ajax has become widely adopted by web applications. Therefore, there exists a growing interest in using those applications with mobile devices.

This thesis evaluates the presentational capability and measures the performance of five mobile browsers on the Apple iPhone and Nokia models N95 and N800. Performance is benchmarked through user-experienced response times as measured with a stopwatch. 12 Ajax toolkit examples and 8 production-quality applications are targeted, all except one in their real environments. In total, over 1750 observations are analyzed and included in the appendix. Communication delays are not considered; the network connection type is WLAN.

Results indicate that the initial loading time of an Ajax application can often exceed 20 seconds. Content reordering may be used to partially overcome this limitation. Proper testing is the key for success: the selected browsers are capable of presenting Ajax applications if their differing implementations are overcome, perhaps using a suitable toolkit.

M:Metrics hat seine aktuellen Dezember 2007 Statistiken veröffentlich, die unter Anderem besagen dass rund 100 Millionen User mobil zocken. Aber nur ein geringer Prozentsatz von 8,7% hat auch wirklich ein Spiel auf einer Entertainment Plattform geladen. Ein Großteil des Spielvergnügens basiert auf fix mit dem Handset inkludierten Spielen.

Kürzlich hatte ich das Vergnügen mich 1 Tag mit Google Android beschäftigen zu können. Dazu passend gibt es ein kleines Howto um auch anderen da draußen den Einstieg zu erleichtern. Google hat seinem Android SDK ein kleines Update spendiert, das unter anderem ein neues UI mit sich bringt. Neben dieser gravierenden Änderung hat sich auch unter der Haube von Android einiges getan. Es wurde das GEO Coding von Google Maps implementiert und die Audio-Codec Pallette um OGG-Vorbis-, MIDI-, XMF-, iMelody-, RTTL/RTX- und OTA erweitert. Bilder via Golem:

Man kann es hassen oder lieben: Das IPhone. Endlich (oder wie man es eben sehen will) kommt das IPhone nun auch auf offiziellen Wege nach Österreich. Wie erwartet wird es von T-Mobile noch in diesem Halbjahr anbieten. Details über ein exaktes Erscheinungsdatum und zu den vertraglichen Rahmenbedingungen bzw. Kosten sind noch nicht bekannt.

Heute hat Yahoo am Mobile World Congress einen Teil seiner kommenden mobilen Strategie enthüllt. Dabei wird die neue Applikation oneConnect eine zentrale Rolle spielen. oneconnect wird als Teil von Yahoo Go 3.0 im zweiten Halbjahr erscheinen. Nokia hat heute in einer Presseaussendung bekannt gegeben, dass das Unternehmen Google als Partner für seine mobile Search Applikation gewonnen hat. Die “Nokia Search” Andwendung wird auf folgenden Handsets mit Google Technologie befeuert: Nokia N96, Nokia N78, Nokia 6210 Navigator und Nokia 6220 classic. Weitere Geräte sollen in Zunkunft mit der mobilen Suche ausgestattet werden.
